Cuba Art NY (CANY) is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization that promotes the work of contemporary Cuban artists living outside of Cuba. Founded in 2001 by a small group of art enthusiasts, its Board of Directors and advisors are all volunteers.
CANY has organized eleven highly-successful group and individual exhibits that have benefitted artists by displaying and selling their work in high-end galleries mostly in New York’s Chelsea district. Exhibit net revenues have all been devoted to promoting Cuban art in subsequent exhibitions, organizing lectures in galleries and universities, maintaining a blog dedicated to Cuban art, and holding social “meets” for art collectors. Artists have also been connected with established galleries, provided grants for large projects, and helped to create their own professional portfolios, web pages, and Wikipedia pages.
After many rewarding and intense years of activity, CANY had taken a three-year break. In 2020, it is back with renewed energy to continue its mission --for now, online.
In memoriam - Ricardo Viera, founding member of CANY, artist, curator, professor of art, and director and curator of the Lehigh University Art Galleries. The CANY board thanks you for your enthusiasm and support all these years. You will be missed!!
